PERSONALITY
Outgoing, upbeat, and straight-forward, what you see of Kirishima in the first few minutes of meeting him is often what you get. This honest sort of earnestness is what allows him to get along with most people he meets or be some spectrum of insufferable to others.
Kirishima values honesty, honor, strength, determination, and teamwork. In his world, he was a student at a prestigious school known for training professional superheroes. He carries that forward in a drive to protect and better the lives of others, especially those he considers friends. And he can find a friend in even some of the most surly individuals.
Eijiro's philosophies can make him a bit naive, especially around people underhanded enough to exploit his good nature. He's not what you'd call the brightest bulb when it comes to academics, but he's a competent fighter even without his Quirk ( superpower ) and driven to keep himself in top form. As a Trainer, he fully believes in a partnership between himself and his Pokemon.

Met at New Bark Town (level 5) | 09/19/20
Machop is Kirishima's starter Pokemon. When they first met, Machop carefully sized Kirishima up for a moment before punching him as hard as he could in the chest. Fortunately, he was only level 5 at the time and did not cave Kirishima's chest in. Not only did Kirishima survive, he decked Machop in return, earning the initial respect of his starter with his strength.
Machop is wary of everything, often taking a moment before he acts or warms up to others. When he does go forth with a decision, however, he does so with full commitment and it is as hard to steer him off that track as a train. He's pretty sure that his trainer is a bit of a moron, but he's also an encouraging and dedicated warrior that isn't afraid to work out right alongside Machop. So he views them as partners.
They tend to keep one another in check. Machop makes sure Kirishima's sometimes wild ideas about training or heroism doesn't get him too hurt and Kirishima guides Machop on how to behave around others. Remember that thing about just testing the strength of those he meets to see if he likes them? Yeah, Machop still does that. Often with no warning to the 'candidate' whatsoever. It isn't that he's mean-spirited, Machop is just a very internalized Pokemon that hasn't quite grasped most people can't read his intentions if he doesn't, you know, outwardly convey those. He's also bad with social cues like personal space or property. If he or his trainer need something, he is prone to just trying to take those things no matter who is holding onto them. If someone doesn't like it, they can just try their best to stop him! Simple! Or Kirishima will pay them back later if that is what's called for, whatever.
Becoming Machoke meant that, for a while, the worst of Machop's behavior came to the forefront. He was proud and bullied a lot of his team as well as Bakugou's as they gained new members, taking it upon himself to test them. Eventually Kirishima caught on and directed him not to do so. They fought several times both verbally (well, kind of a one-sided argument since Kirishima can't speak Pokemon) and physically over this as Kirishima would often step in the way of him and whoever he was bullying to tell him to back off. Machoke, superior in strength to Kirishima, always won those bouts but ultimately respected his trainer for trying. No matter how strong he gets, Kirishima has never been afraid to stand up to him and, frankly, Machoke cares too much about him to seriously hurt him (which he knows because he's come close to accidentally doing so).
A bit of a breakthrough was reached when Kirishima started hatching eggs that held things more cuddly than a floppy fish - i.e. Gauntlet, Mochi, and Bulgogi. Turns out Machoke really likes babies, who can't be expected to be anything but weak at first. They're just... so cute. Finally Kirishima's lectures about protecting the weak rather than crushing them made sense. He will pretend to be indifferent under supervision, but put him in a room with any type of baby Pokemon and he will gravitate that way like an introvert does a pet at a party. Likewise, there's no hesitation when someone asks him to hold them.
Machoke is still a bit awkward socially when things aren't about battle and definitely a diva about his strength, but his attitude is beginning to take an upswing. Kirishima's definitely holding back on letting him evolve until he's reached an emotional maturity that makes him confident to grant Machoke more power.
When the Otherworlder Battle Tournament happened, there was a round in which Machoke's entire role was to set up for the pokemon that would come in after him, sacrificing himself for the team in order to secure the overall win. The way Machoke agreed to the strategy and performed on the field proved to Kirishima that he had become enough of a team player to evolve. So in the new year, Kirishima had his friend, Shoto Todoroki, assist him in the trade to finally evolve his first pokemon partner to his full evolution.
